They're wining and dining us
November 17th, 2007 11:17 PM

Recently, both the Sun-Post and the New Times held cocktail parties for their advertisers, and ran "specials" on their ad rates. The New Times, in particular, had a big happy hour just for Realtors, at Blue Martini in Mary Brickell Plaza. It couldn't have been cheap--there must have been over a hundred Realtors there, and they gave us the whole "VIP" area. It was nice.

I'm guessing that because sales are down, Realtors are spending less on advertising, and so these papers are starting to sweat a little. So they're doing all this to woo us back.

Art Basel is coming up, and it's a big one for advertisers...so I'm biting the bullet and putting ads in both the Sun-Post AND the New Times. They are running special pull out sections and are handing them out at many of the events. We'll see how it goes.

I'm also getting ready to send out over 800 calendar magnets in the mail to my area. (If you want one, just shoot me an email, and I'll get one to you, no problem.)

Losing an old friend
November 10th, 2007 10:11 PM

When I was a little kid of about 8 years old, I was very lucky to have two family friends who were into the new game in town. That was, in 1966, the Miami Dolphins, the newest addition to pro football. The Ross family had season tickets, and I would take the bus with the three Ross brothers and we would sit wherever we wanted, as only about 30,000 people would go to the games then. They would take me to a Hurricane game or two as well. Later, my Uncle Al would take me to the games. We would park at the old Firestone place on 12 avenue and Flagler and walk to the stadium. When I drove by that spot the other day I felt an immense sadness--that stadium was the place of so much excitement for me as a young boy. I was lucky enough to witness so much sports history there-- Bob Griese playing as a rookie, the "Hail Flutie" game, a Super Bowl, so many great Dolphin games including the undefeated season, watching John Unitas walk off that field in his last game in a Baltimore Colt uniform. Then, later, Dan Marino's rookie season, and taking my sons to the games. It just goes on and on. But now, it stops.

My apologies to the non-sports fans who have been reading my blog, but I have to digress from the norm on this entry. Tonight, as I type this, the last game the Orange Bowl will host is being played. After that, it will probably face demolition. Yeah, they're going to actually knock the place down. The OB...GONE!
Little Havana will never be the same. Neither will alot of us South Florida sports fans!

Branching out!
November 6th, 2007 4:17 PM

Two new avenues have opened for my business, and I'm really excited about them both. First, I have begun to work commercial real estate, as a supplement to residential transactions. This provides more value to my customers. The other new realm is working international deals. I am now TRC (Transnational Certified) and able, through ICREA (The International Consortium of Real Estate Assocations) pay and receive referrals from other real estate professionals worldwide. This opens up many possibilities for families, for business relocating their employees, investment properties, etc.

As I mentioned before, my business model is built around providing as much value, in as many different ways as I can, to my customers. To me, it's fulfilling to be able to consult with people who have questions, and to see the relief in their faces when they see that they don't have to go to three different people for three different questions or tasks.

More on that later...
