Taxes, buyers, and reasons to smile
October 30th, 2007 9:13 AM

Today's a good day for real estate, and I think for Florida in general: the tax bill passed, at least to the point where voters will actually vote on the real estate tax super-exemption in January. This is a very good thing, even though it will benefit some people more than others. Even before this, buyer activity has picked up some, and I've been working with more of them than I was in the weeks before.
Reasons to smile? Well, forget taxes and real estate...there are always reasons to smile in this life, regardless of what is going on. The key is finding those silver linings and enjoying them, right?

One thing I've noticed about my business, in the last six months: my clients--buyers in particular--have been much younger than last year. The last two homes I have sold have been to first time home buyers in their 20's and 30's. I am working this week with a couple in their early 30's, getting ready to buy their first home, and a 22-year old woman finding her first purchase for her and her mother. It's exciting. I get to share in what will be a huge milestone in these peoples' lives. Working with first time home buyers challenges me in different ways too. They usually have many more questions, about everything from taxes to inspections to how closings will go, and I can't take anything for granted. I'll explain things, just in case, and more often than not they weren't aware of what I was explaining, and were grateful that I took the time.

I think the fact that first time home buyers are more active in the market is very encouraging.

It's 9:15am now and our weekly sales meeting will begin in a few minutes, so I have time to post this and refill my coffee cup. Thanks for checking in!
